Basic design of SKF self-aligning ball bearings
The basic design of SKF self-aligning ball bearings has a cylindrical hole, or in some size ranges, a tapered hole (taper 1:12).
The 130 and 139 series of large self-aligning ball bearings were originally developed for specific occasions in paper mills, but they can also be used where low friction is more important than load capacity. The outer and inner rings of these bearings have an annular groove and several lubrication holes, and the inner ring has lubrication holes.
Some 12 and 13 series bearing steel balls protrude from the side of the bearing. The overall width of these bearings (including steel balls) is listed in the bearing table and should be considered when designing the relevant parts of the bearing configuration.
Basic design bearings with protruding steel balls
The steel balls of some self-aligning bearings of the 12 series and 13 series protrude from the side of the bearing. When installing these bearings, this design feature needs to be considered.
For bearings with cylindrical bores, SKF recommends hot mounting. If the bearing is to be cold-mounted, the middle mounting ring of the installation tool must be recessed at least 3mm to prevent damage to the steel ball.

Tapered bore sealed bearings
When installing the self-aligning sealed ball bearing to the adapter sleeve, please use the H3..E series adapter sleeve. These adapter sleeves are equipped with KMFE lock nuts, which have a groove on the side to prevent damage to the seal.
Bearings with extended inner ring
The self-aligning bearing with an extended inner ring is axially fixed on the shaft by positioning pins or screws. When two self-aligning ball bearings with extended inner rings are used to support a shaft at the same time, the two bearings should be correctly positioned so that the grooved sides of the inner rings are opposite or opposite to each other. Otherwise the shaft can only be positioned axially in one direction.
